Transparency, Accountability & Strengthening Anti-Corruption Mechanisms in Egypt __________________________ The purpose of this research project is to produce through a series of workshops and publications a deeper understanding of the scope and dynamics of transparency in Egypt , and of the shortcomings and weaknesses of existing anti-corruption mechanisms. This project also aims to acquaint Egyptian auditing agencies with measures adopted by countries such as Denmark to successfully curb corruption and to propose policy recommendations aimed at strengthening the role of Egyptian institutions in fighting corruption and enhancing transparency. The two year research program consists of three principle components. The first component will focus on mapping/understanding the scope and dynamics of transparency in four designated sectors namely: privatization, customs, banking and the health sector through analytical research and research polls. The second component focuses on the role and shortcomings of existing anti-corruption mechanisms and agencies in Egypt , with an emphasis on the legal and institutional frameworks governing their work and the obstacles which hinder their optimal efficiency. A selected number of auditing agencies will be the focus of research namely: The Administrative Control Authority The Plan & Budget Committee (People's Assembly) Banking Auditing Authority Central Auditing Organization The third and final component of the project will focus on the comparative experience of countries such as Denmark in the areas of fighting corruption and promoting transparency. |
